Photographic education

I bought my first camera in Vienna, in the winter of 1997. But it was only in 2004, when I bought my first digital SLR, that I really dived into photography and learned how to properly use a camera and to see the world through its viewfinder. I am completely self-thought, never had photography classes nor attended any workshop. My knowledge comes first from my own experience in the field, but also from reading several books and magazines, studying hundreds of pictures and participate in active online communities where people criticize your work, share tips and push you further. My first passions were travel, architecture and street photography. From 2008 I am solely devoted to natural landscape photography.

Personal vision

I love vast empty spaces and pure silence. I am also keen on warm colors although my favorite color is blue. The ocean is my playground of choice but I also dream about the mountain specially when covered in white.
When I set on a journey to record a place, I rarely look at images from that location. I like to create a vision on my own and rarely study others work to be inspired. That rewards me with unique photos usually different from the rest of the crowd.
As a lover of low light photography I tend to go out early in the morning or very late when the sun is about to set. The quality of light is crucial for the success of my pictures so I only go out when the light feels right and special. Low light is also responsible for long exposures and the dreamy mood my photos most of the times have. I believe nature is special and deserves to be presented in the most magnificent way. You can call it beauty and I will not mind…
An intense sense of depth is also associated with my work. That comes from my passion about space. I stress to create a long journey inside my pictures and invite the viewer – you – to stroll inside it. In the end, that’s what rewards me the most.

Awards & Publications

I have published my photos in a number of Portuguese magazines and newspapers as well as a major Czech photo magazine. I also won awards for my landscape photographs. My first solo exhibition took place in England in 2009.

I was born in 1972 and currently living in Lisbon. I am married and have two kids.
